Role OverviewWe are seeking an embedded systems engineer to own the on-device control software and support the electrical design of a robotic rehabilitation medical device currently transitioning from active R&D into pilot production and commercialization. This role is central to day-to-day embedded and controls execution and works closely with mechanical, software, and production teams to ensure reliable system performance through that transition. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in embedded control software and electrical hardware, a working knowledge of sensor integration and closed-loop control systems, and works well independently across a breadth of technical domains.
Key Responsibilities - Own and maintain the product’s PLC-based control software; develop and implement improvements based on testing findings and design changes.
- Support electrical design modifications to the system based on safety and verification testing outcomes.
- Support pilot fabrication from an electrical standpoint: panel wiring, electrical documentation, and electrical QC.
- Integrate and process sensor data (encoders, force sensors, and others) within the control system.
- Maintain and update electrical schematics, BOMs, and documentation for prototype and pilot systems.
- Execute verification testing and debugging of electrical and software systems; document results and drive design refinements.
- Collaborate with software contractors on integration between the on-device control layer and the user-facing application.
- Support evolution of the electrical platform over time, owning the control-software side of the transition and integration.
- Support pilot device installations and clinical training sessions; occasional travel required (<10%).
Candidate Profile - Self-starter: tackles complex problems without hand-holding.
- Comfortable with complexity: large, messy projects don’t rattle you.
- High drive: moves fast and shows real progress every week.
- Team player: shares knowledge, listens, and helps others win.
- Quality-focused: won’t call it done until the work is rock-solid.
- Learns on the fly: masters new tools, standards, and protocols quickly.
- Mission-minded: motivated by restoring mobility for patients.
Basic Qualifications - Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience writing and debugging PLC-based control software, including structured text.
- Ability to read and contribute to electrical schematics and hardware design.
- 2-3 years of industry experience in an electrical, controls, or embedded systems role.
- Authorization to work in the USA (we do not sponsor H1B).
- Fluent in English.
Preferred Qualifications - Sensor integration experience (encoders, load cells, IMUs, or similar transducers in a control loop).
- Familiarity with IEC 60601 or similar electrical safety standards for medical or industrial equipment.
- Experience in a regulated development environment (medical device or similar).
- Experience with B&R Automation Studio or a comparable IEC 61131-3 environment.
- Experience with embedded C/C++ or non-PLC control platforms.
