LaunchTN is a 501c3 nonprofit partnership building an ecosystem of support for every startup and investor in Tennessee. As a public-private partnership, we are uniquely positioned to provide direct investment while also supporting collaboration among founders, investors, researchers, private sector institutions, and government. We foster entrepreneurship, technology advancement, and workforce development by providing capital access, commercialization support, and connections.

A key LaunchTN initiative is InvestTN, a venture capital program designed to make catalytic, equity-based investments into high-growth, Tennessee-based startups. Through vehicles including the InvestTN Regional Seed Fund and the Growth Technology Fund, InvestTN requires founders to secure private capital matches from investors, fostering a growing ecosystem of early-stage investment and innovation across the state.

Position overview

Title: Venture Fellow

Reports to: Senior Capital Associate

Term: 6 months, with the option to extend to 12 months at the time of the 6-month review

Hours: 20–30 hours per week

Location: Nashville, TN — in-office 2–3 days per week

The Venture Fellow serves on LaunchTN’s Capital team and will focus primarily on due diligence work supporting the continued deployment of the InvestTN Regional Seed Fund and the Growth Technology Fund. The Fellow will also provide project support to the Capital team as needed, offering hands-on exposure to venture investing, deal analysis, and Tennessee’s startup ecosystem.

This is a part-time, termed fellowship based in Nashville, TN. Candidates must be local to the Nashville area, as relocation assistance will not be provided. The Fellow is expected to work in-office 2–3 days per week.

Key responsibilities

The Venture Fellow will be responsible for a dynamic range of tasks, with a primary focus on due diligence and Capital team project support.

Due Diligence

  • Conduct in-depth research on prospective portfolio companies for the InvestTN Regional Seed Fund and Growth Technology Fund, including market, competitive, financial, and team analysis.

  • Support the drafting of detailed investment memos for deal analysis and internal review at the monthly Investment Committee meeting.

  • Join introductory and diligence meetings with founders alongside Capital team members.

  • Assist in screening applicants and maintaining an organized, up-to-date view of the diligence pipeline.

Capital Team Project Support

  • Provide support on Capital team projects as needed, which may include portfolio tracking, data collection and reporting, market research, and preparation of internal and external materials.

  • Support communications with founders, investors, and ecosystem partners, primarily through email correspondence.

Required qualifications

  • Local to the Nashville, TN area (relocation assistance is not provided).

  • Availability to work 20–30 hours per week, including 2–3 days per week in office.

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to conduct thorough market research, analysis, and due diligence.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Team-oriented and service-minded, with a passion for early-stage innovation in Tennessee.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite; familiarity with Airtable is a plus.

Preferred qualifications

  • Current graduate student, recent graduate, or early-career professional with an interest in venture capital, entrepreneurship, or economic development.

  • Prior exposure to venture capital, startups, finance, or consulting through coursework, internships, or work experience.

  • Comfortable and confident in public-facing / networking environments.

  • Excellent work ethic; ability to work both collaboratively and independently while managing multiple projects.

What success will look like

In the first 3 months…

  • Developed a clear understanding of the InvestTN investment thesis, the Regional Seed Fund and Growth Technology Fund strategies, and SSBCI program compliance requirements.

  • Contributed meaningful due diligence and research on multiple companies under review by the Investment Committee.

  • Supported the drafting of investment memos and established a reliable, organized approach to pipeline and project support work.

Compensation & structure

  • Hourly Rate: $25–$33 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

  • Hours: 20–30 hours per week.

  • Term: 6-month fellowship, with the option to extend to 12 months at the time of the 6-month review.

  • Benefits: This is a part-time, termed position; Fellows are not eligible for LaunchTN benefits.
