Position Summary

We are seeking a full-time Computer Science Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2026 in our Knoxville, Tennessee facility. The intern's primary project will be the development of a semi-automated image analysis tool for carbon processing from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in developing and refining a Python-based GUI using PyQt5 and OpenCV.
Support integration of analysis features and image segmentation tools.
Help test and debug new functionality across different image sets.
Contribute to UI improvements for usability and reproducibility in scientific data workflows.

Background coding Knowledge:

Python is required, C++ is a bonus to understand the API’s.
Knowledge of PyQt5 or other GUI frameworks is strongly preferred.
OpenCV for image processing is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with NumPy and Matplotlib.
Familiar with understanding image segmentation, masking, or broad image analysis.

Course Requirements/Level of expertise: Junior level and above.

Other Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
