About Us

SpendCare is an early-stage financial technology company currently participating in the Techstars Economic Mobility and AARP’s AgeTech Collaborative accelerator programs. We have raised nearly $1M from angel and institutional investors and have a paying customer, one of the largest in-home care providers in TN, and a pilot with a national health insurer.

Our mission is to protect seniors and their financial resources so they can age where and how they choose.

For home care agencies that want to spend less time tracking and investigating purchases and more time providing high quality care to seniors, SpendCare provides personal shopping cards that their caregivers use to help the seniors they serve buy groceries, medications and other personal items while automatically tracking and sharing all purchase activity.

We plan to use this initial expense management platform as our wedge into capturing the $340B spent out of pocket on senior care products and services and using that spending data to better protect seniors from fraud, identify their mental and physical health needs and connect them with the products, services and support they need to live and age well at home.

Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and passionate Full Stack Developer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience founding or working at an early-stage startup and own everything from front-end development and delivery to developing backend systems and managing a US-based contract development team. This role requires a strong focus on user-centric, accessible design, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Front-End Development: Implement designs into code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React. Ensure high-quality code through attention to detail and best practices.
  • Project Management: Define project goals and objectives, develop a roadmap, and manage tasks using project management tools (e.g., Jira).
  • User-Centric Approach: Prioritize user needs and experiences in design and development decisions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with UX/UI designer and contract developers to ensure seamless integration and delivery of features.
  • Problem-Solving: Analyze and resolve complex issues, ensuring functionality and performance. Continuously seek innovative solutions to enhance user experience.
  • Proactivity: Take initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement and proposing solutions. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and best practices.
  • Develop Backend Systems: Write and maintain efficient, scalable, and maintainable code in PHP, including designing and deploying APIs.
  • Database Management: Design and optimize MySQL databases to ensure high performance and data integrity.
  • System Architecture: Define and design scalable and efficient backend system architecture.
  • Product Operations (Logs Management): Implement and manage logging frameworks to monitor and optimize system performance.

Requirements

  • Skills:
    • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React
    • Experience with Figma and other design tools for translating prototypes into functional interfaces
    • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles.
    • Knowledge of project management tools (e.g., Jira)
    • PHP Programming & API Development: Proficient in PHP and experienced with frameworks such as FastAPI, with a solid understanding of RESTful API principles as well as JSON and XML.
    • Database Management: Proficient in designing, implementing, and optimizing MySQL databases.
    • System Architecture: Knowledge of backend system architecture and design principles with experience in building scalable systems.
    • Troubleshooting and Debugging: Strong skills in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving issues in backend systems using logs and performance metrics.
