About the Role
Whisper Aero is a next-generation, air propulsion company that delivers thrust more cleanly, efficiently, and quietly than ever before.
Whisper is seeking an aero-mechanical engineer to accelerate design, fabrication, and test of aviation and air moving systems that integrate Whisper’s revolutionary electric propulsors. This candidate will develop vehicle structures and electromechanical systems, oversee fabrication, assist in flight tests, and process flight test data. The candidate should have a strong background in designing and flight testing UASs and General Aviation aircraft.
What You’ll Do
Design, build, and test structures and electro-mechanical systems for UAS and manned vehicles
Develop internal design and analysis tools such as actuator sizing, landing gear design, and structural sizing.
Managing external contractors (meetings, fabrication oversight, etc)
Coordinating with touch labor and addressing concerns and suggestions for improvement
Collaborating closely with Whisper’s internal design teams
B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
Practical experience designing and building aircraft composite structures
Practical experience developing/maturing mechanical design of mechanisms for airframes
Demonstrated hands on experience with one or more of the following: CNC machining, composites, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, mechanical assembly, injection molding
Experience developing aircraft structures and systems through design, analysis, prototyping, and fabrication
Experience in ground test and/or flight test
Experience with CAD and PDM (SOLIDWORKS Preferred)
Strong familiarity trading off competing priorities between cost, manufacturing complexity, schedule, and product performance
U.S. Persons Status
Private or Remote Pilot Certificate
Experience working on turbomachinery, electric motors, and/or aerospace grade products
Basic aerodynamic analysis capability such as lifting line and vortex lattice.
Experience working on consumer facing hardware products (DoD vehicles, consumer drones)
Experience with microcontrollers and avionics
Familiarity with acoustic measurement and analysis
Identify a role that’s a solid fit. We realize that perfect fits are hard to find, so if something doesn’t exactly line up, but you believe you could be the one, you should still consider applying.
Read through our values. We want every one of our team members to be a culture add. This means sharing our core values and the way we work.
Prepare your application. If you’ve found a job fit AND think you’ll be a culture add, we’d love to hear from you.
