Our Company

Whisper Aero, a leader in air propulsion technology, focuses on delivering cleaner, quieter, and more efficient thrust solutions. Our team, with over a decade of experience in electric propulsion, includes experts from NASA, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and other industry giants. We pride ourselves on a culture of ambition, creativity, and teamwork, constantly seeking innovative minds ready to challenge norms and drive progress in our field.

About the Role

We’re looking for a powertrain and/or electric motor expert who can guide the development of electric motors and powertrain systems for our propulsive solutions. In particular, they should be able to navigate complex conceptual motor design trades confidently, drive these concepts from sketches to manufacturable designs, and analyze multiple motors in the context of a broader distributed electric propulsion system. This person will work closely with our Chief Engineer and Hardware Lead to iterate on motor designs and will have no problems rolling up their sleeves to get work done.

What You’ll Do

  • Designed, developed, and tested high voltage, high power density electric motors for aviation applications.
  • Responsible for all aspects of electromagnetic designs, including stator and rotor analysis of various electric machine topologies
  • Analysis and optimization of the motor design using FEA for thermal modeling, acoustics, and vibration
  • Validate simulation results through dynamometer testing
  • Ownership of the electromagnetic design through all stages of development from concept, design, testing, validation, and production release and support
  • Continuously evaluate new technologies and design improvements to develop the most power-dense, efficient, and reliable electric motor
  • Explore the integration of the motor into hybrid-electric or fuel-cell-based powertrains.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Person status
  • MS or PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • Experience with electromagnetic FEA software (Ansys Maxwell, Infolytica, FEMM …)
  • Expert knowledge of and hands-on experience with surface and interior permanent magnet motors
  • Experience with optimizing electric machine design for specific power and acoustics
  • Strong technical, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in groups and individually
  • Experience in a fast-paced design environment

Bonus Qualifications

  • Fluency in Julia, Python, Git
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD Software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic noise vibration and hardening codes
  • Familiarity with FEM and thermal computational analyses
  • Familiarity with Design Optimization or Acoustic Analysis
  • Familiarity with hybrid or fuel cell powertrains
