The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with senior engineers to assist in developing manufacturing processes, implementing new manufacturing methods, and testing proposed processes / changes. Identification of manufacturing deficiencies and developing appropriate solutions related to materials, processes, and tooling is an essential function of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Designs tools and machines used to manufacture products.
  • Reviews production program equipment, hardware, and tooling; makes recommendations for purchase, repairs, or replacement.
  • Involved in the development of new processes, methods, and production controls.
  • Installs new equipment and ensures that it operates correctly; trains others to operate new machinery.
  • Prepares operations manuals for new or existing equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of new and developing manufacturing technology, equipment, and applications; applies this knowledge to recommend and implement new technology and processes.
  • Performs time studies and develops lean methodology to increase OEE in all areas of manufacturing including welding, robotic assembly, vacuum brazing and CNC machining.
  • Contributes to product design reviews through Design For Manufacturing (DFM) mindset, evaluation of feasibility and manufacturability of designs, and contributing to cost effective design.
  • Drives completion and oversight of Process FMEAs.
  • Develops test procedures and equipment for testing products, components and sub-assemblies.
  • Machine design including solid modeling, detailed manufacturing drawings, and completes assembly drawings.
  • Defines appropriate metrics for monitoring process health.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Minimal travel required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Two or more years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable success in a fast-paced work environment that includes multifaceted responsibilities.
  • Willingness to participate in a “hands on” production and manufacturing environment on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying engineering principles and practices to company product development needs, such as thermodynamics, engineering mechanics, strength of materials, material science, heat transfer, combustion, and fluid mechanics.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess problems or issues with manufacturing equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of production principles and techniques including welding (MIG and TIG), machining, and fabrication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software, Solidworks preferred.
  • Programming ability of robotic assembly and welding equipment preferred.
  • Experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and/or maintenance is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis FEA, Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD, Design of Experiment and Reliability Engineering is desirable.
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt preferred.
  • Highly developed oral/written communication skills, technical reporting and business correspondence.
  • Machine design including solid modeling, detailed manufacturing drawings, and complete assembly drawings.
