Reports to: Fadi Saleh (Head of Paywall)
Location: Remote
Type: Contract-to-hire
Note from hiring manager: As a native Tennesseean, I spent a lot of time in the Nashville and Knoxville entrepreneur communities and want to invest in you the way these cities invested in me. I'm looking for someone who is passionate about the creator economy and naturally gifted at operations to partner with me and scale our business. If you like spreadsheets, docs, project management tools, systems, processes, and the creator economy, and can talk at length about them, this is a dream role.
About Shorthand Studios
Shorthand Studios is a creator-first agency powering growth for creators and brands through strategy, content, and data-driven social storytelling. This is where creativity meets analytics. We've partnered with 500+ creators to date and provide end-to-end services across content distribution, publishing operations, channel management, post-production, metadata optimization, monetization, affiliate revenue, and custom paywall strategy and execution.
We're a division of Underscore Talent, the next-generation talent management firm representing top global creators across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Twitch, Snapchat, gaming, and podcasting. Underscore Talent is a part of TheSoul Group, the digital studio behind 5-Minute Crafts and one of the largest social publishers in the world.
The Paywall division designs, launches, and grows product and membership businesses for creators on Substack, Patreon, Mighty Networks, Kit, and similar platforms. We operate end-to-end: paywall and content strategy, execution, publishing, customer support, marketing assets, paid ads, and retention. Our roster includes established top creators across wellness, finance, education, and culinary verticals, with new engagements added regularly.
The Paywall Growth Operator is the right hand to the Head of Paywall and the operational backbone of every client engagement. You'll be the operational and strategic partner across every account. Concretely:
Run point on 3–5 client engagements alongside me, joining strategy calls as a second brain, owning follow-ups, executing playbook plays, and closing loops with creators between calls
Manage and direct our VAs: assigning work, reviewing output, holding quality, escalating what needs me
Co-develop our internal systems: the playbook, the audit cadence, ClickUp workflows, and AI agents
Drive strategic loops: pulling data from creator dashboards (Substack, Patreon, Mighty, Kit, Meta Ads), identifying conversion levers, drafting recommendations, and shipping changes
Own the messy in-between: the unscoped problems that don't fit any process yet, and turn them into one
Talk to clients directly: joining calls, recapping calls, providing email/text updates, and helping them get unstuck
Who You Are
AI native. These are already your daily tools and you’ve found smart ways to delegate execution to this layer and be the abstraction layer above it
Sharp written communication. You can email a creator with a real audience, confidently.
Systems brain. You see workflows where other people see tasks.
Comfortable in a mess. We’re early and moving fast. It can get messy. If that sounds exciting instead of terrifying, you're in the right place.
Bonus Points (Not Required)
You've used ClickUp, Notion, or Airtable at real depth
You've run Meta or Google ads (even small budgets)
You've worked with a creator, podcaster, or influencer before
You can code-light: Python scripts, basic JavaScript, serious prompt engineering all count
You have actual opinions about the creator economy
You've launched something publicly. A newsletter, a Patreon, a Substack, a course, a small product, a community, an ecom brand. You've taken cold humans and turned them into subscribers, customers, or members. You know what conversion actually feels like.
A front-row seat in building a full-service agency from the inside
Direct partnership with me on real client strategy (current roster includes Michael Easter, Nick Norwitz, and others)
Exposure to the full stack of creator-owned business development
Remote-first
